About us
Arctic Locations is the brainchild of the owners of Norwegian Farout AS and UK travel operator Arctic Holiday Ltd.
Farout AS is a Destination Management Company based in Tromsø, Northern Norway, with over 15-years´ experience organising complex logistics in the Arctic. Anything from one-off high-end adventure itineraries and unique film or photo locations, to jazz festivals on remote arctic islands and big company incentives in Lofoten, we´ve done it.
Over the years we have accumulated access to an array of trusted guides, local artistic and technical talent, as well as suppliers of unique places to stay.
Our core team members and owners are passionate locals, obsessed with detail, the sustainability of our environment and delivering world class service despite the remote locations we find ourselves in.
In short – we have intimate knowledge of the region as a whole.
The people
Eirik Bræin Gikling
Eirik grew up in the western part of Norway, where, as a young lad he experienced outdoor life, fishing, and hunting. He was a ski racer at a young age, and to this day is a very experienced mountaineer and skier. He first arrived in Finnmark, Northern Norway, 20 years ago and fell instantly in love with the wild landscapes and people of the north.
Eirik has hosted everyone from royalty to extremely adventurous groups all over Arctic Norway. He has curated films about the region, arranged photographic workshops and sourced expertise from local talent, whether that be the best band, the most original local chef, or the most accommodating and expert dive teams for filming whales under water.
He also co-owns and has developed one of the most pictured accommodation sites in Lofoten, the fishing village of Eliassen Rorbuer at Hamnøy. He has curated and set up 2 jazz festivals in Northern Norway, and always has one foot in the world of creative culture and another in entrepreneurial development.
Eiril Skarbek
Eiril grew up in Tromsø, Northern Norway. Her passion for the outdoors stems from a childhood involving endless ski trips and hikes for mushrooms and wild berries with her parents. She emigrated to London in 1993, where she continues to live, with stints of living in New York, Milan, and Oslo in between.
Eiril worked as a fashion and commercial model for over 15 years while finishing her degree in Biochemistry and Pharmacology at Kings College London. Her first experience of TV productions on the other side of the camera to modelling was at Princess Productions, specifically researching “Journeys of a lifetime”, when Ian Wright went to Greenland.
Since 2007 Eiril ha developed and co-owns the unique travel destination management company Farout AS with Eirik, and the UK tour operator Arctic Holiday Ltd. She is used to extremely challenging trip logistics, where nothing is “undoable”, and is familiar with film sets and locations and can communicate with people from all walks of life with comfort.
Knut Schreuder
Knut is a born and bred Northern Norwegian from Tromsø. He is passionate about outdoor living and has broad experience hosting and catering logistically for very demanding projects during his 7-year career with Farout. After finishing Wang school of commerce, Knut was in the army and did 2 tours in Lebanon as an UN-soldier. He also spent 6 years living in New York, Milan and San Francisco working in the fashion industry.
Since coming home to Tromsø he dedicated himself to providing cultural experiences for staff and patients at Northern Norway´s biggest hospital, while also managing to feed his enthusiasm for conquering various peaks locally and around the world. Knut counts Kilimanjaro and Mount Elbrus as 2 of his conquests. He is always calm and has the ability to make everyone from royalty and local fishermen, to kids, feel comfortable.
Knut has a genuine interest in people and feels he is privileged to be able to show anyone interested his homeland. He is the best host, guide, and fixer you could have on any team.
